Spring Cleaning.

I recently overhauled and culled my closets in a totally typical spring cleaning fashion.  I took everything out, tried it on and told my sister to be brutal.  She mostly said "No that looks horrible. Give it to me" Sometimes she meant it in the mean way too... I did end up filling several garbage bags with things I no longer want or need!
I love the way having an organized closet feels.  I feel inspired every time I walk by my closet instead of irritated and overwhelmed. I strongly recommend you take part in your own closet cleanse!!
To help you get started,  here are my top tips for a successful closet overhaul!
This is number 1. Don't go at it alone!! Have a trusted friend( or sister) with your best interests in mind to help you determine what you're holding onto just because you can!

Brutal even. Does it really look good on you?  Do you actually wear it?  No?  Then out it goes!

This kind of goes along with being honest.  Don't let your clothes just sit in your closet with out earning their keep! If something is on the chopping block and you cant think of at least 2 ways to wear it with things you already own, let it go.

As you go through your clothes, you'll probably notice a reoccurring trend. My sister for example had 14 blue and white striped shirts and zero camisoles.  So we pared down to her favorite few and wrote out a 'need' list to help fill in the holes and fill out her wardrobe! I'm a list maker in general and have a running list of clothing that catches my eye.  Sometimes things fall off the list before I ever purchase them while the basics are always being replaced! This is also a good way to keep yourself from being overly trendy ;)

Yay! Reward time! Take all those things that you don't wear but someone else might  and sell it at a local secondhand shop! Then use the $$ to find items from the list you made while cleaning out your closet!

I hope this helps motivate you to clean out, reorganize and get ready for Spring!?
Please feel free to leave any additional tips for cleaning out your wardrobe or just Spring Cleaning in general in the comment section!

Wiww

Welcome to What I Wore Wednesday!
No weeks worth of posts today-just one outfit that I love.

I have been eying these floppy straw hats for awhile now and they've been featured in several "3 ways to wear it"  posts.(here, here and here for starters)  Finally I have one to incorporate into my real life wardrobe! For free too-I helped my sister clean out her closet yesterday and she let me take it off her hands-gotta love spring cleaning!

Are you in Spring cleaning mode yet??

Ivy's Party!

also known as "what I have been doing instead of blogging"
I love throwing parties. I especially love throwing themed parties!  For Ivy's first birthday we decided to have a Candyland Theme!  Kind of because we call Ivy 'Ivy Pie' and kind of because her wall says  'Sweet" but mostly because we just thought it would be super fun! Just for clarification. When I say 'we' I mean me and this lady:
This is my friend Amber and she's amazing.
She gets half the credit for this party and it just simply would not have happened if not for her artistic talents and the fact that we both get a kick out of over doing it.  Shes the kind of friend that's family :)

Now-onto the party details!
In the backyard, we created a life sized candy land game!
We lined the kids up

where they drew a card and thus started their journey through Candy Land!!
First they must travel through the peppermint forest
where candy cane trees and peppermint flowers grow
diligently tended by the giant Mr. Mint

Ivy loves him! I do too actually...

Next the colorful path leads them past the gingerbread house,

and through Princess Lolly's lollipop garden!

Gwen is apparently totally into this...I don't know WHERE she gets her enthusiasm ...

Last, they must pass through Queen Frostine's icy wonderland
where a few unfortunate ice cream cones met their demise...

Its Texas people. Not even the Queens magic could keep ice cream safe...

Once safely through the children made their way up the back steps, through the Candy Arch
 and onto the candy smorgasbord!

The kids each got to grab a plate, choose their candy and then head outside to decorate and consume
their reward for making it safely through Candy Land!

After the children were thoroughly sugared up we sang happy birthday,

opened presents,

and spent the rest of the day hanging out with good friends!

Before everyone headed home we made them take home a favor bag full of candy!
(yes made-I do not need all this candy in my house!!)

So there you have the reason why things have been a little quiet around here!

I really cannot believe an entire year has already passed!

I need to start planning the next party...
