Spring Cleaning.

I recently overhauled and culled my closets in a totally typical spring cleaning fashion.  I took everything out, tried it on and told my sister to be brutal.  She mostly said "No that looks horrible. Give it to me" Sometimes she meant it in the mean way too... I did end up filling several garbage bags with things I no longer want or need!
I love the way having an organized closet feels.  I feel inspired every time I walk by my closet instead of irritated and overwhelmed. I strongly recommend you take part in your own closet cleanse!!
To help you get started,  here are my top tips for a successful closet overhaul!
This is number 1. Don't go at it alone!! Have a trusted friend( or sister) with your best interests in mind to help you determine what you're holding onto just because you can!

Brutal even. Does it really look good on you?  Do you actually wear it?  No?  Then out it goes!

This kind of goes along with being honest.  Don't let your clothes just sit in your closet with out earning their keep! If something is on the chopping block and you cant think of at least 2 ways to wear it with things you already own, let it go.

As you go through your clothes, you'll probably notice a reoccurring trend. My sister for example had 14 blue and white striped shirts and zero camisoles.  So we pared down to her favorite few and wrote out a 'need' list to help fill in the holes and fill out her wardrobe! I'm a list maker in general and have a running list of clothing that catches my eye.  Sometimes things fall off the list before I ever purchase them while the basics are always being replaced! This is also a good way to keep yourself from being overly trendy ;)

Yay! Reward time! Take all those things that you don't wear but someone else might  and sell it at a local secondhand shop! Then use the $$ to find items from the list you made while cleaning out your closet!

I hope this helps motivate you to clean out, reorganize and get ready for Spring!?

  1. I don't have backup but I have found that when I am unsure of an outfit or a piece of clothing I can get a better feel for it if I take a picture or two of the item on me. Then when I look at it later it becomes obvious what works and what doesn't.
