color inspiration

Recently, I had the pleasure of hosting my very good friend's daughter's 1st birthday! 

I think the color palette she chose is just absolutely beautiful and the set up was relatively simple so I thought I'd share in case you were looking for some color inspiration for an upcoming event!

We chose a soft pink, along with cream, gold and a light teal blue for some contrast.,

Adding a burlap runner and a bunting strung on twine lent just the right amount of texture to the soft feminine vibe.  

The theme was "Some Bunny is One"
 so naturally these sweet little rabbits with gold tipped ears
 graced our dainty table!  

The "chalkboard" is actually a piece of foam board from Hobby Lobby.
 I love all the fun details about our sweet birthday girl and the personal touch it adds, along with the clothesline of pictures chronicling her first year!

I love using these tissue paper flowers to decorate for parties.
They can be made rather large so they pack a visual punch, are extremely versatile as
 you can make them in absolutely any color, and the best part?
They are so inexpensive to make! 


We had very specific colors in mind so we were pretty happy to find them
(and the gold dotted party hats) at target.
There are a million tutorials for how to create these flowers,
 but here is a quick overview while you're here.

First, determine what size flower you'll be making

 That's it! Minimal effort for maximum payout.
I hung them from thread and taped them up-they're light so its not hard to get them to stay put.

Hello Again!

Well.  Here I am 2 years later! 

 The results from my poll tell me I should basically pick up where I left off and

 I can't do that without mentioning the fact that we are a family of 5 now!

Benjamin turned 1 on March 9th!

There is just something quintessentially different about a boy.

 He moves differently, he 'talks' differently...he is just such a BOY. 

After 7 years of parenting girls its hard not to notice a difference!  He climbs, which is something new for us.  I found him standing on my dining room table this morning actually. He was quite pleased with himself too...not cool...He also lounges around on the floor which is another unexpected difference.  This, of course may not necessarily be a 'boy' thing, but just a Ben thing. To walk in and find your 1 yr old laying on the floor "reading" a book is kind of at the top of the cute scale. 

Speaking of cute

My sweet girls are as amazing as ever.

 Gwenyth is 7 and a huge help to me. She is so smart and sweet its hard not to go on and on;)

(this is right after we chopped off over a foot of her beautiful hair!)

 She is also at the age where she wants to have long meaningful conversations. She tends to be a deep thinker and is very emotive...empathy is a strong suit for sure and I love watching her talk because its like looking in a mirror. She moves almost exactly like me... that sounds super narcissistic but that's not how I mean it!

Ivy just turned 3 and is still as vivacious as they come!

 As she says, "I'm Ivy cause I'm Ivy!" There really isn't any other way to put it! Bold and strong willed and all that jazz...apparently another mirror situation because I'm told she is just like 3 yr old Harmony. (Sorry Mom!) What my sweet Pie requires in...we'll say 'intentional' parenting;) she makes up for with her effervescent personality and sweet spirit.  She is honestly just a delightful little person!

Michael and I are still working away at making our house a home. 
Several spaces have evolved and settled and I might even call them "done."

 For a season at least...I love this quote from Steve Jobs:

We've been working towards that.

a home that looks beautiful, feels comfortable and welcoming, and functions for our family Sometimes that means changing the plan and sometimes that means re-doing something
 because it doesn't work how you thought it would.  

I'll be updating a lot of those changes soon but its just too much for this already long post!

Life Lately

has been so good. I've been enjoying my little family so much lately that I have been totally unmotivated to blog! I thought it was about time I shared a little photodump/update on what we've been up too! At least what I remembered to take pictures of. Warning-photo heavy!

We went to the zoo-which is always fun. This particular zoo was very small and full of rescue animals

 which made for a very relaxing experience.

There were no crowds, very active animals-including this panther-or black leopard 

that was eying Ivy..

 Which you've already seen if you follow me on Instagram.

 You know we were singing "I like to move it move it!" 

The kids named him prince Julian.

 He was not amused.

It also had a flock of free range peacocks, none of which were shy... 

I've never seen a peacock do this in real life!

 More recently Gwen and I went to a free preview of our local Ballet troupe's mothers day showing! It was her first ballet experience and she was mesmerized. It was a fun mom daughter date and our first since Ivy was born. Much need quality time.

Also one more thing-Our-no wait-Michael's Garden is growing like crazy!! 

Look at the size of these leaves!

We also added 2 more beds to accomadate all our little seedlings so we 

have kale, basil and chives growing here!

My husband?  Now he grows stuff! I always forget to water...

 

 there is something so amazing about watching plants spring from the earth 

where before there was only dirt.

 I can't wait to pick fresh produce from our backyard!
